"PS. I hope, that not being a cheap brand, IBM ships TPs with european output in Europe.
This hope slowly degrades however. I have used several notebooks from different companies
running linux until now, but none of them gave me even close amount amount of problems as my R30.
And all this despite IBM supporting Linux. This is sad."
I feel the same; have been sending multitude of comments about Linux support to IBM and
absolutely got not a one comment back from them. nice.
Hot swap (i.e. run-time interchangeable devices) needs reboot says IBM
Mouse dies after suspend [must be a thinkpad hardware/controller bug]
Occasionally (sooner or later) mouse dies when resuming the suspended machine. It just dies.
Tried everything with it .. connected Logitech Mouseman to external mouse port .. nothing ..
played with the machine 2 (two) days for avoiding to boot this lousy thing. Booting is evil
(except if you are microsoftian steganosaurus). I loose my all nicely made work environment
i.e. environment have been working with at least 21 says, or even a month .. that's long uptime
for laptop. Especially I miss my 30+ browser windows which remind me open things, things to read,
things to get more information, things to check out like statistics for my own subsystems.
Naturally I have also bookmarks .. hundreds of bookmarks, even huge amount of ordered bookmarks,
but most of all I miss long uptime.
Things not helping (XFree86)
Connecting mouse to external port, suspending and resuming. Got pointer moving,
but buttons were stuck. Got also internal mouse pointer moving.
Trying to reload mouse modules.
Trying to tweak X11 with any of the contrib utilities. Btw. xsetpointer sucks 101%.
Edited on-the-fly X11 configuration file - but there are no way to
reload the configuration file. I could use serial mouse .. (but then no GPRS).
Checked all the manual and stringed all X11 binaries to find out more. Searched
internet using google. nada. (Now i know how it felts to be nailed on the cross).
The only way is to: force people make things right. Try not go even when commercial
"product" over the lowest fence. You will heart other people, you will cause misery to the
world, and that is evil. Did I mention 666?
I feel so frustrated (that's why laptop project helps).
